Adani Power Training & Research Institute (APTRI) is the Research and Performance Consulting Center of Adani Power Ltd. APTRI endeavors to contribute to the Global Sustainability and Indian Skill Development Initiatives through its scientifically designed and utility/organizational need based customized program. The programs and activities are aimed at performance and efficiency improvement and enhancement of  delivery of electricity.

 

Research and Performance Consulting programs and activities of APTRI cover the entire electric power value chain including Coal Mining, Logistics, Thermal and Solar Power Generation, Transmission (HVAC and HVDC), Distribution and End Use of Electricity. APTRI also shares its expertise in the niche areas of Port Operation, Water Management and Cement Manufacturing.

 

The world class infrastructure and capability in terms of program design and delivery, faculty and content quality of APTRI at Mundra has been well recognised and the center is accredited as Grade ‘A’ and Category –I Institute by CEA, Ministry of Power, Government of India.

  • APTRI – Genesis

    APTRI has its roots in the Adani Power vision “…to be globally admired leader in integrated power business with deep commitment to nation building…’”. At Adani Power it is firmly believed that for business excellence the human resource is the most critical and valuable asset that must be nurtured by creating an engaging environment and culture of innovation and learning & development. In the dynamic business environment, continual learning and development of the professionals is the only way to navigate through the prevailing VUCA - volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous environment. In 2006 Adani Power ventured into power business and within a short span of 8 years, commissioned a capacity of 10,440 MW and became the first to achieve operation of Supercritical thermal power plants in India thereby demonstrating the capability of a strong, competent and skilled human resources.

     

    In this ambitious journey, as the supercritical technology was new to the nation, Adani Power faced severe crisis of skilled and knowledgeable professionals with experience in Supercritical Technology. The team was built with members from diverse background and several proficiency levels and functional areas. The challenge therefore was in creating an engaging environment and culture of learning, unlearning & re-learning .

     

    In response, Adani Power launched an ambitious initiative for intensive training of the then 3000 plus strong workforce covering all levels and all functions involved in EPC and O&M of thermal power plants, HVDC and EHVAC transmission line & sub-stations and distribution spread across India. APTRI was thus founded for creating an Institutional framework for creating an engaging environment and culture of learning, unlearning & re-learning .

     

    learning with a systematic scientific approach. The institute developed world-class infrastructure with IT enabled and Data driven program design, execution and closed-loop monitoring. The Training needs identification (TNI) of each employee was conducted and the needs analysed (TNA) for designing focused programs leading to proficiency advancement for maximum performance enhancement and employee engagement. The approach also captured inputs for developing cross-functional programs covering Business Development, Techno-commercial, and Finance, HRD and allied departments and services spread across the country.

     

    APTRI has thus been founded on strong role based competency model and within a short span of 5 years, APTRI made strong presence in utilities and organisation in domestic and international market and attracted large number of professionals. The programs are designed and delivered by highly experienced, practicing experts invited from within Adani Business.  

  • Knowledge & Skill Concerns

    Adani Power was the first to achieve operation of a supercritical thermal power plant in India. As technology was new, it faced major challenge in terms of availability of requisite skill and knowledge during project execution and O&M of the Supercritical Power Plants. Sensing the critical need for high level of execution and operational knowledge and skill, Adani Power quickly set-up a training and development center and launched a massive effort for intensive training of 3000 plus strong workforce. The endeavor aimed at covering all employee levels and all business functions involved in construction and O&M of thermal power plants, HVDC and EHVAC transmission line, sub-stations and distribution spread across India.

     

    The Scale and Speed of advancement could only be matched by employing modern IT and scientific tools and techniques for a Systematic Approach to Training & Developing. The scope of the programs extended to Engineering, Business Transformation and Change Management, Business Development, Techno-commercial, Finance, HRD and allied departments and services of the Adani Power Business spread across the country.

     

    APTRI has thus emerged from the intensive scientific analysis and efforts undertaken by team of highly experienced National and International senior professionals from top utilities and organization like Babcock & Wilcox, GE, ABB, Alstom, NTPC, SEBs, IPPs, other Industry clusters and Subject Matter Experts to understand and analyze the   competencies and training needs for the new technologies and operational skill across all the segments of power business throughout the entire value chain.

  • APTRI Knowledge Sharing with other Organisations, Utilities & IPPs

    APTRI expertise in enabling transformation, managing change and enhancing competence of the professionals at all levels has been well recognized and has been extended to other utilities too. APTRI has organized several training programs for highly experienced professionals from country’s oldest utilities to ensure dissemination of best practices across the energy industry. APTRI also organizes GET, MT and ET level programs of up-to 26 weeks for not only the professionals recruited by the Adani Group, but also extends the same pedagogy & field experience to the recruits of other companies who get trained at APTRI facilities under these courses.

  • APTRI Infrastructure & Capabilities

    The Institutional capabilities in terms of strong faculty and expert base  with systematic and structured programs and methodology were recognized by CEA, MoP, GoI and the Center was awarded Grade ‘A’ and Category I status.

     

    APTRI offers NABL accredited Metering Lab, Protection & Automation Lab, Hi-Fidelity Power Plant Simulators of 30 MW sub-critical GE, 600 MW Sub-critical BHEL and 660 MW Supercritical Invensys make,  Power System lab with NEPLAN, Mini DCS and PLC KIT Workshops, Engineering models besides Wi-Fi enabled AC hostels and guest house.

     

    APTRI  is a permanent member of ISTD.

  • IT and Video Conferencing Network

    APTRI lecture halls, conference rooms and auditoriums, Hostel and Guest House are equipped with state of the art Video Conferencing facility. Inter-site knowledge exchange and experience sharing programs are conducted regularly amongst the centers across India and abroad.

    APTRI has linkages with IITs, CSIR, IISc. several R&D projects are on-going with PG students and faculty.
